Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas

This is, in my opinion, the definitive version of one of my favorite Christmas songs. You need to see the movie (Meet Me In St. Louis) to understand why it's so bittersweet ... but I think it's beautiful and touching.

Enjoy.

Well it's hardly "Dominick the Donkey," but I guess it's okay...

Okay, I have NEVER heard of that song … but my partner has. So I Googled it and just heard it for the first time …

I admit the “hee-haw hee-haw” parts are pretty Christmasy, but I may need a little more exposure to it before I put it in front of Judy’s song …

No matter who sings "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas", it's a beautiful song. It's one of my favorites--striking both melancholy and also happiness in me.

There is a great article in the 12/22 Entertainment Weekly (Matthew McConaughey on the cover) about the history of that song. It was once a MUCH DARKER tune:

"Have yourself a merry little Christmas,
It may be your last..."

"Faithful friends who were dear to us,
will be near to us no more..."

Here's the article: http://www.ew.com/ew/report/0,6115,1569872_4_0_,00.html

Just for the record, I'm a "Until then we'll have to muddle through somehow" rather than a "hang a shining star upon the highest bough" kinda guy.

Very worried that I have posted this comment several times, but not getting any response after I click submit... going to try one last time, sorry if this shows up 5 times Matt.

They all came through!

Thanks for the link - I knew that some words had been changed, but I had never seen the original version before.

I agree with the "muddle through" part, too ... more in keeping with the original reason for the song in the movie.
