Why, oh why, oh why oh ...

... why did I ever leave Ohio?

(Bonus points to anyone who can identify that lead-in ... I'm counting on Michael ... and no, I've never actually lived in Ohio ... )

Yes, I'm going to Columbus, Ohio tomorrow. I'll be there through Thursday, for work. Now, I've been to Columbus before - YEARS ago - and it's actually a pretty cool city. I'm looking forward to the areas near my hotel, and hoping I can get to the cool bookstore in the German Village (I honestly have no idea where things are or how close to my hotel certain neighborhoods will be - and my friends in our Columbus office are planning on taking me out most nights ... I hear drinking is a contact sport there, so I'm a little worried ... ).

I will take pictures - maybe even videos (!) while I'm there, although I can't promise I'll have much time to post. There's a lot for me to do in four (well, three and a half) work days. And not being a real happy flyer, think of me white-knuckling it for about six hours of in-air time tomorrow and on Thursday.

Do they let you bring fifths of vodka in your carry-on anymore??? I guess I'll be throwing some cash toward my United Airlines flight attendants ...

I doubt they allow alcohol whatsoever in Ohio after my vacation there. Worst drunk ever. Margaritas by the pitcher(s) at some Mexican themed bar. I'm told we went bowling after and I couldn't keep my ball in our own lane. I have no recollection of this but granted, there's a long memory gap between the time of the burrito dinner going down and the time when it came back up at Cedar Point the next morning.

I've wisened up considerably since then.

We all have stories like that. Thankfully I will not have a similar story to tell when I return.

I hope.

And if I do, I won't tell it.

It's from Wonderful Town or something, isn't it? Leonard Bernstein, I think.

Columbus Ohio...?
It's not a city that ever really pops up on UK people's radar. Please provide a full info guide and tourist highs & lows!

Make friends with the cutest Cabin Crew person and they'll look after you. The airline I work for is always really nice to folk who aren't keen on flying.

Happy travels and safe journey.

is the rest: "...must it be this way..." (en vogue)???

I love Ohio...Columbus is my fav actually. I used to spend a lot of time there back in the mid to late 90's fund town

It is a wonderful town (both Cow-lumbus and the musical). German Village has a quaint feel to it, but parking is a bitch. Be sure to wander around the 'short north' lot's of fun places up there close to campus.

I lived there in my 20s.

"Why oh why oh why oh, Why did I ever leave Ohio? Why did I wonder to find what lies yonder? Maybe I better go home (O-H-I-O) Maybe I better go home."

From Wonderful Town, 1953, music by Leonard Bernstein, lyrics by Comden & Green.

I hope I didn't disappoint, Matt. ;=_

Darth - it's not a major tourist destination. But it IS a very cool city with some great neighborhoods. I'll post about it a bit later. Of course, I was there for work, so it wasn't a vacation spot for me.

Oh, and Darth - there were NO cute cabin crews. On any of the four flights I was on. Truth be told, they all seemed to be geriatric. Including the passengers.

(Except for the 150 kids - or so it seemed - on the flight back from Chicago to Seattle. Including the poor little girl two rows in front of me who threw up all over her entire row of seats).
